About DownSiteNow
A simple, fast way to find out whether a website is down for everyone or just for you.
When you enter a web address, our server connects to that website and checks whether it answers. We don't load the full page, run its scripts or download images – we only need to see that the server responds. You get the result in a second or two.
What “up” and “down” mean
A website is up when its server answers our request. That includes sites that ask you to sign in, block automated visitors or are temporarily limiting traffic – they are clearly online. A website appears to be down when we can't find it, can't connect, the connection times out, a secure connection can't be established, or the server reports an internal error.
Websites Being Checked Now
The live columns on the homepage show real, automated checks run continuously by our own system against a broad mix of public websites. They are not checks made by visitors. Domain lists include the Majestic Million by Majestic, licensed under CC BY 3.0.
Privacy
The “Recently Checked Websites” list shows only the website, its status and when it was checked – never who checked it. We don't require an account and we don't publish IP addresses.
